Hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Year...we are staying home tonight...hopefully Bryan and I can even stay up until midnight. We know Brandon can stay up and the girls are hoping that they'll make it too. If you are going out tonight, please don't drink and drive. Be responsible. The life you save could be your own.
When they want to spend their Christmas money on clothes rather than toys. Brandon bought a hoodie from Aeropostale and another hoodie from Abercrombie & Fitch. It's funny how in one year things have changed. Last year it was all about the PSP and buying everything imaginable for it and now it's all about the clothes. Well, and the ipod Nano too. You can't forget about that. Remind me next year to not buy him any clothes for Christmas. Everything I bought went on sale the day after. Grrrrr.... I'll just stick to the gift cards.
The kids have some friends who spent their Christmas at Disney World. Boy were they jealous. It got me thinking...for our family of 5 to travel to Disney World for Christmas could be quite expensive and such an undertaking. Through orlandofuntickets.com, you can get discount Disney tickets. They even guarantee it. They also have all of the discounted tickets to everything Disney offers, including Disneyquest, Downtown Disney Pleasure Island, and the Blizzard Beach Water Parks, just to name a few. Dinner shows are also popular in Orlando and orlandofuntickets.com offers those as well like the Arabian Nights, Medieval Times, and Pirates Dinner Adventure. Don't forget Sea World, Universal Studios, and the Kennedy Space Center - they have them all!! Check their site today.
I forgot to mention that if you purchase TiVo you also get a $180 rebate. The TiVo system that I bought has the dual tuner, which means you can record two shows at once. You can also store up to 80 hours worth of recorded shows. I got mine at Best Buy for $250. You'd better hurry though, you need to purchase Tivo by December 31st, 2006 in order to be eligible for the rebate.
If you don't have TiVO then you are definitely missing out. TiVO was my gift to Bryan this Christmas and my my my, it has really changed the way we watch TV. Now I will never miss an episode of my favorite TV shows and can actually get caught up on my soaps...All My Children & Guiding Light. The kids have caught on very quickly to the whole TiVO thing...pausing it on their favorite shows to run to the bathroom and never missing a thing. What an amazing concept!!

Okay, if you're headed to Atlanta for the Final Four, why not check out CondoCompany.com? You can get a list of Atlanta Condos that you can rent while you're there watching the Final Four. We did the same thing when we went to Rocky Point - rented a condo down there for a week and it was better than staying at a hotel.
Not only do they have condos that you can rent, but the list provides you with people such as Realtors, Owners, and Developers who have condos for sale in the Atlanta area. This makes it easier for you to avoid the "middle man" and go directly to the listing agent or owner. CondoCompany.com is your number one source if you're looking for condos in the Atlanta area!!

Bryan got me a Zojirushi Home Bakery Supreme Bread Machine for Christmas and I have been a bread making fiend this last week. I just absolutely love it!! It is so easy and you can have a beautiful loaf of bread in about three hours.
Here's a picture of it....

I have been scouring the web for more recipes and the possibilities are endless. I thought I'd have to go out and buy one but why bother? There's so many recipes out there online!!

March Madness is fast approaching. I love watching college basketball. If you're in need of NCAA Final Four Tickets then check out premiumseatsusa.com. They have the largest inventory of NCAA Final Four tickets online. Even if it's sold out, don't worry, you will be able to get tickets through them. Their inventory is updated regularly so definitely check back with them often. The final four games will be held March 31st and April 2nd, 2007 at the Georgia Dome. Any tickets that you purchase from them are shipped via Fed Ex, so you know that it's secure. If you have a loved one that's totally into college basketball, what a great late Christmas gift!!
Last night we took Kaitlyn to the Phoenix Suns game. They played the New York Knicks and boy am I glad that we beat them... 108 - 86. She loved being there...this is the second year in a row that Santa has put Phoenix Suns tickets in her stocking. Her absolute favorite player is Steve Nash. We went to the Phoenix Suns Team Shop and she got a T-shirt and a Steve Nash purple basketball. It was a great way to spend some one on one time with her.

This week I am on a much needed vacation from my work at home duties. It's nice to not have to worry about all of the recruiting that I do and all of the phone calls that I make. I am off from transcription work as well.
We had a nice Christmas. Santa brought Kaitlyn Phoenix Suns tickets so she, Bryan, and I are going to the Suns game tomorrow night. She is very excited!!
We're still trying to find room in this house for all the Christmas presents...the kids of course got more than they need and we just got back from Target so the girls can spend their gift cards...it's just neverending...

Ugh, this week has been so crazy busy for me. I've not been able to blog in about a week!! Last weekend Brandon and Kaitlyn sang at the Irish Nutcracker and Brandon had a solo performance. He did a great job!! This week has been spent getting some last minute items...I'm pretty much done. Today the mall was packed and it rained (it rains here in AZ?) so going from my parking space (which was about a mile away LOL) to the mall pretty much sucked. Oh I just remembered I have to get some more stocking stuffers....grrrr...I'm not totally done yet...

Now that my brand new niece Isabella is here, can I just tell you how much I love to buy baby gifts ? They just have the most incredible stuff out there. Check out babynest.com - I mean seriously - they have everything you can ever imagine for a baby on their site. It's just a one stop shop online. I must have spent an hour and a half just looking at all the really cute things they had. The Nest Baby Shop also has beautiful personalized baby gifts and many of the items have free personalization. I wish I came upon them sooner. I saw so many cute things that would have been great as a shower gift!!

Whew what a day. Maddie had a dentist appt at 9:30, Kait had a dr appt at 1:00 and the kids had dress rehearsal for the Irish Nutcracker that they're singing in at 5:30. I am just completely exhausted. Brandon is singing a solo during the show and wow he did a great job. I got lots of nice comments about him. He does a mother proud!! Unfortunately the venue is not very big - seating for a maximum of 100 people. It will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow night and who will be left standing. It better not be us. Grrrrr. I'll be so mad. That's why I am reiterating to Bryan so many times on how important it is that we get there EARLY. Husbands....sometimes they just don't get it, do they?

I do a lot of psychiatric transcription from home and it just saddens me how many adolescents are addicted to drugs and alcohol. Unfortunately some of these kids come from homes whose parents themselves are abusing drugs and/or alcohol. So of course, these kids are going to follow in their footsteps. There are so many adolescent drug treatment centers available throughout this country. Several of the psychiatrists have mentioned ECHO Malibu, whose acronym stands for Empowerment, Choices, Hope, and Opportunities, a facility located in Malibu, California. Most of these kids stay at ECHO Malibu an average of 30 days, but they could stay longer. What I understand about this center is that they don’t try to lay the blame on the teen, they basically assist youth in their growth as they aim towards their own accountability for their actions and greater self-confidence. We need more centers like this to help these kids. They don’t want to listen to someone telling them that it’s their own fault that they got into this mess, they need someone to help them through this and to let them know that this is just the first step in their courageous battle against this awful disease.

Oh my. Reindeer hot dogs? No. Say it isn't so. When Fred Markoff of Illinois went on a visit to Alaska, he had his first taste of reindeer hot dogs and decided that he was going to offer them as a December special at his hot dog stand in Glenview. They are actually made in Alaska and contain a bit of beef and pork because evidently reindeer meat is so lean and dry. (Who knew?) I don't know...for $8.00 it's a little pricey to me for a hot dog...and a reindeer hot dog at that. Poor Rudolph. My kids will be devastated. If reindeer hot dogs aren't your thing...try his smoked alligator and pork sausages and buffalo bratwursts. Blech. I feel some major heartburn coming.
I found a new store online that I think my father in law is going to love!! At Northeastmarineelectronics.com, you can find any kind of electronic gadget you need for camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, and driving. My father in law is a pro bass fisherman and I'm sure he'd love to get his hands on some new electronics. This stuff is not cheap by any means, I know how expensive some of the items that he buys online are. At Northeastmarineelectronics.com, they offer significant discounts off the retail price. They only sell the most trusted brands out there that are known to be reliable like Astron, Garmin, Standard Horizon, and Raymarine just to name a few. I'm going to email my father in law the link to this site - I'm sure he'll find something he likes!!
If you have a digital camera you need this product. It's called Blubox. It's a software product that compresses images and text. Here's what it does:
*It will compress over 480 image formats (JPEG, TIFF, BMP) and text by up to 95%.
*It saves you up to 20 times more data on your hard drive and memory devices - good thing - because mine is just about on overload...LOL.
*It lets you email your pictures faster. (Don't you hate it when you get pictures from someone and it takes FOREVER for them to download?)
*It also protects your pictures for long-term storage online (It beats having to get your pictures developed just to sit in a photo box forever. Yeah, I've got tons of those photo boxes).
All you do is drag and drop your pictures into Blubox and they will be stored in a totally secure encrypted box in a fraction of their original size. It's that easy. Now I think I've found my new storage site for all of my pictures. :)

Then you must visit this site, "50 Best Travel Sites You've Probably Never Heard Of", courtesy of Luggage Online . One of the sites they reference is Tripadvisor.com, which I have used in the past. It provided me with lots of information before we headed out on our trip to Rocky Point this past summer. It gave me a little bit of an idea of what our room was going to look like (because travelers uploaded pics to their site) and got some great tips from vacationers who had stayed in the same resort as well. I knew which resorts to stay away from (there were several resorts that were being built and construction noise was ongoing around several of the hotels) and which restaurants in the hotels to stay away from (customer service seemed to be lacking in some restaurants). There's definitely no holding back on that site!! Visit Luggageonline.com to see the 49 other sites that are available in helping you plan your upcoming trip.

Here are some alarming statistics that I found online:
*According to the FBI: Chat rooms offer the advantage of immediate communication around the world and provide the pedophile with an anonymous means of identifying and recruiting children into sexually illicit relationships.
*With an estimated 24 million children now online, one out of five have been solicited for sex in the last year.
*An estimated 725,000 children have been "aggressively" asked for sex, defined as an offer to meet in person.
*The FBI recommends that you should monitor your child's access to all types of live electronic communications (i.e., chat rooms, instant messages, Internet Relay Chat, etc.), and monitor your child's e-mail. Computer-sex offenders almost always meet potential victims via chat rooms. After meeting a child on-line, they will continue to communicate electronically often via e-mail.
With that said, I am seriously considering purchasing a program that provides computer monitoring. As a parent, of course you want to be able to trust your child in the hopes that he/she makes good decisions while online, but in this day and age you just never know. I have looked at the history on his computer to see what sites he has been on but the one thing that I'd really like to be able to capture are instant messages and emails. At spectorsoft.com they offer Eblaster 5.0, which does exactly that. It forwards everything to you immediately (instant messages, emails, etc.) via the email address you provide. I know it sounds harsh - spying on your kid like that, but with the statistics listed above, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Bryan and I have been going to the gym lately (it's about time) and I have noticed a lot of people using their own Heart Rate Monitors . There are so many different kinds out there so it prompted me to take a look online and do some research. At everythingfitness.com, they have a wide range of monitors to choose from. They have strapped, strapless, and specialty monitors including the monitors specifically for biking and swimming from CardioSport, Polar, EKHO, and Reebok. They have a buying guide that you can peruse through on their site to help you choose which one is right for you. Here's my favorite:

It's an ECG accurate strapless heart rate monitor by Reebok and it's only $47.95. Shipping is free for orders over $19. If you order by December 13th (tomorrow), you get free holiday delivery. You'd better hurry!! I'm going to order mine!!

At one time or another you’ve received a gift card to a merchant that you’re probably not too thrilled about. I’ve been known to re-gift them (come on, we all do it..) or sometimes they just sit there and go unused. Too bad you can’t return them. I think I’ve found a solution. Swapagift.com. It’s a site where you can sell or exchange your gift card. You can even buy gift cards at a discounted rate that Swapagift.com owns. For instance, they have a Brookstone gift card with a balance of $500.00 on it that they are selling for $435.00. Now that’s a deal!!
What a great idea, isn’t it? There’s a $3.99 fee to list your gift card with their site and you can decide what you’d like to sell your gift card for or you can list merchants you’re interested in and swap the gift cards out with someone. To me, it’s worth the $3.99 fee just to get rid of it and be able to get a gift card that I want in return. So the next time you get a gift card that you don’t want, don’t fret - register with Swapagift.com and check out all the other gift cards that people don’t want either. It could be a perfect match!!

I went to the UPS store this morning to mail out Christmas gifts for my nephew and two nieces. The first box, which was going to Texas from Arizona was quite small, no more than 2 pounds and was shocked to find out that it was almost $23.00 to send. The second box which is twice the size and about 5 pounds was only $10.00 to ship. I complained to the gal behind the counter and she started to explain to me that there are different factors involved as far as the cost to ship but she decided to go ahead and weigh the first box again. Lo and behold it was in fact ONLY $10.00 to ship as well. Whew, thank goodness I griped about it. The lady next to me had tons of stuff to ship and crap her total was $289.00 to ship everything. What the heck? I think next time lady you should think about mailing gift cards. LOL.

Just thought I'd give you a heads up on that if you didn't already know. I get tons and tons of Linens N' Things coupons in the paper and in the mail and use them at Bed, Bath & Beyond. I love it!! I bought three items today from BBB, had three LNT coupons and was able to use all three of them for 20% off each item. Hey, any way to save a buck, right?

Kaitlyn ended up winning 2nd place in the Free Throw Contest on Saturday. The 1st place winner had 12 baskets and Kaitlyn made 11. She was thrilled that she placed. It was a lot of fun to watch and we're so proud of her!! She received a certificate from the Elks and will receive her trophy next week.

I found this great site that provides you with a Christmas Gift Guide . They give you tips on what to get family, babies, kids, teenagers, women, men, and the office. It's just the thing I need. Here are some great tips when choosing gifts for kids:
*Choose Age-appropriate Gifts- Obviously you don't want to buy a 6 year old a baby toy. They're not babies. Look for something that is within the recommended ages for the toy.
*Appeal to Their Hobbies - If a child is crafty, pick a gift that will get their creative juices flowing. My daughter loves to take pictures and scrapbook so last year she got a Scrapbook set with a disposable camera in it as well.
*Keep it Quiet - If you don't want to give your child a drum set because of the noise, then the parents of the child you're buying for probably don't want you to get one for them either.
*Avoid Disasters - Buying a rocket that will launch 300 feet in the air could pose danger to yourself, your neighbors, or even pets. Try not to get anything for a child that could get them in trouble.
This is just a sample of the tips they provide for you. Check out 1giftidea.com if you're in doubt in what to give your teenage niece or nephew, your office mate, or even your family.

There are a lot of family members that will not be with us at Christmas this year so I thought about sending those relatives some Christmas Flowers. Beyondblossoms.com has a nice variety of fresh flowers and their flowers are imported from flower farms all around the world. You can get a dozen roses for less than $30!! I like their site because with each purchase you make you get reward points and eventually get free flowers just for ordering with them. They're not just your boring, run of the mill flower website, they have everything from a flower picture contest to a favorite flower quote page.
Beyond Blossoms was founded in 2003 by two grad students. They needed to write a business plan for an entrepreneurship class and wanted to sell something that allowed them to be creative as well as something people loved. Flowers were the perfect solution. Once they graduated, they started their business. I wish I could be that motivated. Maybe someday.

Tomorrow I get to babysit my brand new niece Isabella. It's just for a couple of hours but it will be nice to have a baby in the house. Maddie wants me to have a baby so she has a younger brother or sister and well...ahem...that's not really possible since Bryan had a little operation down there. I love holding her but when she's screaming and crying it's nice that I can just give her back to her Mommy. Hee hee. I have been there and DONE THAT!! Whew!!
Okay, time for me to brag a little bit. The Elks put on a Free Throw Contest in our town and all of the local schools participated. Kaitlyn won for her age group - 8 to 9 yr olds - and now will be competing against other schools on Saturday. She is so excited. She has been out there practicing her free throws. After the contest there will be a luncheon at the local Elks Lodge for all of the participants. I'll let you know how it goes on Saturday.
With the new year just around the corner, that is my time to start on my annual diet. I promise myself to go to the gym, eat healthier, etcetera. I had lost some weight a couple years ago and was very regimented in my diet and exercise. I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that I weighed a lot of my food too, as to not go over in portion size. You can find a wide variety of these Digital Scales at scalesetc.com. Not only do they have kitchen scales but they have bathroom scales and shipping scales as well. Any of the My Weigh scales that you purchase through them comes with a lifetime manufacturer's warranty. Go to their site today and see all of the scales they have on sale - just in time for Christmas.

I found BrainCast, which is a free memo service that allows you to record reminders for yourself while you're out and about and it automatically sends the reminder to your computer at home. It's a pretty simple concept,
you call an 800 number, wait for the prompt, and record your reminder. You'll have an email waiting for you at home about your memo. It's free and very easy to use. There have been so many times when I've been out and forget to do something - this way I can call and it will remind when I get home. This is going to help me out a lot - the older I get the more I tend to forget things.

I went back to Michael's today and bought a 4 foot tree that was already pre-lit for only $23.99!! Holy cow what a deal. I mean come one, that's a deal that you can't pass up! I ended up putting it near my entertainment center and decorated it with pastel colored ornaments. It turned out so pretty. Now I just need to find a smaller tree skirt and I'll be set!! I will probably find more decorations for it...I think I'll have the kids pick out more ornaments for it..kind of a "kid tree" for them to decorate as they like.
I came upon an article regarding Common Myths and boy there are a lot of them out there floating around.

One of the myths - "Using a cell phone can give you brain damage" made me remember a couple years back when this was all over the news. I was a little scared to start using my cell phone after I heard that. The truth? Even though cell phones do emit mild microwaves of radiation, they do not actually do anything to any of the cells located in your brain. Now if you strapped your cell phone to your head with duct tape, then that might propose a little bit of a risk to brain cancer but otherwise you're safe.
Another interesting one - "Red wine is good for you."
Well, duh, I could've told you that. In all seriousness, red wine contains flavonoids and discourage blood clotting, thus reducing the risk of a heart attack. Unfortunately the same does not hold true for white wine. Sorry to all you white wine drinkers. Maybe this is the time to switch to red? Also, if you drink more than one glass a day, the benefit goes bye bye and you're doing your body more harm than good. You can read more about these urban legends on maximonline.com. Very interesting stuff!!

Okay, I hit Michael's and spent nearly two hours there. My head was spinning. I had so many ideas going on in my head with wreaths, trees, lights, and even more decorations!! I didn't buy the store out..thought about it but I knew Bryan would kill me...I settled on more lights. I might head back out there again...they do close at 10:00 :)
Sunday, December 03, 2006
So I tackled the outside lights this afternoon. I am so exhausted!! They turned out really nice, in fact we had a gentleman who drove by this evening while I was doing some touch ups on the lights and he gave me the thumbs up sign and said it looked really nice. That made my day. I'm still contemplating on stringing blue lights all through my river rock to make it look like - what else? - a river..and an animated deer to make it look like he's drinking water. I've already got two deer in the front and put white lights all in the grass to make it look like water...I certainly don't want to blow a fuse like I did last year...LOL...I'm going to head out tomorrow morning after the gym and go to Michael's ...they've got some GREAT deals on Christmas stuff!!

I just can't say enough about PayPerPost. I just started with them this week and have already made just under $50. I love going through all of the opportunities and picking which ones I want to write about. There are other companies out there that pay you for to write ads on blogs but I enjoy writing for PayPerPost so much more than the others. You get more support through PayPerPost, and I like that there are so many opportunities to choose from. With the other companies, you always have to check and re-check their website to see if they even have anything available. If they do have offers, a lot of the time it's an offer you've done before so there's no sense in doing it again. I've even gotten a friend involved in blogging and told her about how much I love writing for PayPerPost. She can't wait until her blog is 90 days old and start making money like I do!!
Okay, my Christmas tree is up!! I love bringing out all the old ornaments and the memories behind them. My favorite are the ornaments that have pictures of the kids. There was one of Brandon when he was just a baby. I can remember it like it was yesterday and now here he is...12 years old. Tomorrow I tackle the outside. I have some new ideas so we'll see how receptive Bryan is to them. LOL.

I've often wondered about it myself as well as how much the homes in my neighborhood are going for as well. Eppraisal.com can give you a property appraisal and tell you what your property might be worth. They use the latest real estate information and eppraisal.com is updated daily from a database of 70,000,000+ homes. What's really neat is it can also give you a bird's eye view of the property as well. All you do is type in your street address and zip code, click submit, and it will give you the estimated value range of the property, the year it was built, and the square footage of the home. Pretty cool, huh? I typed in a lot of my neighbor's homes and was surprised to see that there was a little bit of a difference between the value of my home and theirs. That's okay, I don't plan on selling anytime soon.
Wow, those Merry Maids ladies did a fantastic job on my house today. They did everything - cleaned all the ceiling fans, washed the baseboards, dusted all the furniture and knicknacks...everything. It was definitely worth it!! Now I just have to keep up with it and I should be fine :) Thanks ladies for a job well done!!
I just started up with PayPerPost this week. I love posting for them - I get to choose the opportunities that I want to write about that are interesting and that I feel are relevant to my blog. One of the first things I did was check out their PayPerPost Forum. It has helped me a great deal to learn more about the company and some of the rules regarding posts. There are lots of newbies (just like me) who post general questions and I'm glad that I can go there and be informed. Once I've posted about the opportunity I've chosen, I'll get an email that my post has been approved. 30 days later from when I wrote the post, I'll get payment for it in my Paypal account. It just couldn't get any easier than that.
I am so excited....today the Merry Maids ladies are coming over to clean my house. :) We got a $250 gift card from someone and we are utilizing it to the penny. Now I'll be able to just keep up and straighten....this time of year gets too busy for me to do the little things like cleaning the blinds, baseboards, etc. Maybe I can convince Bryan to have them come out once a month....
